Chair Of GovernorsWhat interests you in school governance?
I'm currently employed by Wakefield Council at Harewood Nursery School as the Nursery Teacher. I'm the Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead. I have also been a Local Authority Moderator for the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. In my previous role I worked as a Local Authority advisor for children with SEND in the Early Years and have a thorough understanding of supporting children with SEND and their families. I have been a qualified teacher for 16 years but have worked with children and families for 20 years. I became a Governor at the school to use my knowledge and skills to support my local community, particularly the children and families of Altofts and Normanton. I have gained a number of qualifications throughout my career and am always looking to further my knowledge and skills.

I was appointed Governor in March 2019 and have been working at Lee Brigg Infant & Nursery School for a longer period following my transition to Normanton Common Primary Academy. I feel privileged to be a part of this wonderful school that is the ideal starting point for a child’s education. Both my Teaching Assistant/HLTA role within the school and my Governing role bring opportunities for training and learning, which I relish. Before working at this school, I worked in the South of England, first for a Merchant Bank and then as Support Staff in a Primary Setting. These roles supported my customer service, the customer now being the children! When I moved North, I decided to broaden my knowledge and remain in the moment by studying various diplomas, especially SEN, and I am currently in my first year of an Early Childhood degree with the Open University.
